Boost your knowledge of art and history at these interactive exhibitions taking place in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain
For art enthusiasts
Navigate your way through 2,500 years of world history at Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Globes: Visions of the World exhibition, which is open to the public until 2 June 2018.
A compelling collection of 160 globes, rare archaeological remains, coins, fascinating scripts and prints, astrolabes, world maps and paintings, originating mainly from the collections of Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), combine to shine a light on the common thread of humanity. As Manuel Rabaté, director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, explains: “This exhibition offers an exceptional opportunity to construct a comprehensive narrative linking astronomy, geography, religion and philosophy, by examining different symbols and representations of the Earth.”
At the start, you’ll see three instruments and artworks from the 17th century: a celestial globe, a terrestrial globe and an armillary sphere, which is a model placing the Earth at the centre of the universe. Next, you will go on to explore the context in which a vision of the world has evolved over time, influenced by factors as diverse as mathematics and philosophy.
Louvre Abu Dhabi is open on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 8pm and on Thursday and Friday from 10 am to 10pm. Special visitor hours will be in effect during Ramadan. General admission tickets are priced at Dhs60, or Dhs30 for ages 13-22 (excluding VAT). Free for children under the age of 13. Special exhibitions are open during public hours and are free to enter with museum admission.
